Church Letterhead

Church LetterheadChurches should be taxed, when the pastor publicly endorsed a candidate from the pulpit or church head?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23155264/

What about separation of church and state?

If it is a political entity, they should not be taxed as one?

Well, it's the whole point. You anti-gay, pro-homophobic churches who want to support candidates and pass laws that reflect their religious beliefs. They want the special right to be political, but pay no taxes. I think any church that engages in these activities should be taxed like the rest of us are taxed.

Yes, synagogues, temples and Protestants mezquites too.

OBAMA: You're not black!
Yu are mulattos! like the Cubans, Dominicans, Haitians, and Hispanics and others.

Funny.

I have no problem with churches endorsing anyone and I do not feel they should be taxed.

Why do you think?

No, everyone is entitled to his opinion.

Churches that adopt an attitude may lose their tax exempt STTAUS.

YES

Probably twice imposed if the ideas of the radical church enspouses well known racists like Farrakhan

Signs indicate that yes, the churches are the biggest rip tax loves everyone

The answer is yes, but not for the reason you stated. Once upon a time, before we lived in the International Socialist Welfare State Police, the Church (s) 'people learned that it was wrong to steal and kill and if you went to church or church tried to convert you, he addressed what is now "well-being." Now, of course, the church does not do these things, and should lose their "tax exempt" status because of that. Hell, we could probably knock down the national debt from revenues collected from the Catholic Church alone!

If a church supports a particular candidate, they risk losing their tax-exempt status. Most churches that I knew just encourage people to vote and use their own judgments on who to vote for.

separation of state means that the government will stay out of religion .... that religion will remain outside the government

I think the pastor, priest, imam, rabbi or lowered to wallow in the mud of politics does a disservice to his own religion, his congregation, synagogue or mosque.,

Why?

I mean, we do not tax the political parties. Why should we treat them different churches?

Many special interest groups espouse political opinions - the ACLU, the NRA, now, the NAACP - they do not pay taxes.

Why would a church be allowed to do something that these other groups can do?

Churches should be required to follow the same rules as other nonprofit organizations when it comes to political endorsements (which is the current law.)

I will not even ask my pastor who intends to vote for, just to avoid putting in a delicate situation.

I was under the impression that this is not permissible for a religious institution to support a candidate. If they do they tax exemptions in bulk. Which makes me wonder how Jerry Falwell and the mega-churches there?

IRS and Congress have already addressed the issue.

Some churches ignore corruption IRS for their silence and talk politics.
I think that churches should be taxed.
Show me where "separation of church and state" in the Constitution.
I'll show you where the founders wanted to prevent any institution "religious" as Catholicism to gain control of the government ...

Churches are tax exempt as churches, if they become political advocacy groups, they lose their tax exempt status.

I wonder about the status of many of our "churches". Pat Robertson a real minister? Is Dobson Focus on anything as a family, but a call to arms.
