I have a Dell mini notebook with MS Office on this. Is it possible to transfer or Word from my other computer? We have Microsoft Word on your main computer and I want to use it on my notebook XP MS Works is not compatible with my computer at work.
It is not possible to transfer something to another computer, but that does not mean that your cost.
MS Office must be enabled on each system and you do not have the installation disk with the activation key you will not be able to put MS Office on the notebook (short of buying another copy ).
Thus, the alternative is to use something else. OpenOffice is what I use at work (everyone else uses MS Office) and is fully compatible with and even records all my documents in MS Office. Here's the kicker: it's completely free! = D
http://www.openoffice.org/ is the place to go for the download.
To change or set of backup files by default or "save as" format for new files in OpenOffice.org:
Launch any OpenOffice.org application such as OpenOffice Writer.
Click Tools, then Options.
Expand the Load / Save section in the left pane, click the + (plus sign).
Click General under the Load / Save section.
In the field marked "Default file format" to the bottom of the dialog box, select the type of document you want, for example, for text files Writer document in the document type list.
In the dropdown on the right the words "Always save as", change the format and select "Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP".
Repeat above steps for two other documents such as spreadsheets or presentations that you want to save as Microsoft Office file, then select the appropriate default save as format for them.
Click OK to save the settings.
From now on, whenever you want to save a document, the default format will be. Doc,. Xls or. Ppt and other Microsoft Office file formats and extensions.
